Men's Health Week Around the World

Men's Health Week is celebrated every year around the world in the middle of June. It is an opportunity to highlight the importance of men's health, and to promote and support the health and wellbeing of men and boys in our communities.

Men's Health Week focuses on not just physical health, but also men's mental health and emotional wellbeing. During the week, we highlight the health challenges faced by men in Australia and worldwide and run events that can be replicated year-round to improve the physical, emotional and mental health of men and boys.

Through a series of promotions, events and publicity around the country, Men's Health Week is designed to provoke thought and discussion about what needs to be done to improve male health.

In 2025 Men's Health Week will be held from 9-15 June.

Why men's health matters

Research consistently shows that men are at higher risk for many serious health conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. Additionally, mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, and suicide disproportionately affect men, yet many struggle to seek help due to stigma and societal pressures.

One of the key goals of Men’s Health Week is to break down barriers that prevent men from accessing healthcare. Encouraging regular check-ups, open conversations, and lifestyle changes can lead to earlier detection of health issues and improved overall well-being.

An international focus on men's health

Each year, Men’s Health Week is celebrated around the world under a variety of themes. The 2025 theme in Australia is 'See a GP' - highlighting the importance of seeing a doctor if something seems wrong with your physical, mental or emotional wellbeing. In addition, we will be highlighting Men's Health Facts and encouraging men to:

  • Take regular exercise to support health and reduce stress
  • Take part in regular health checks and screening
  • Seek help when they are feeling low or challenged by life circumstances.
  • Help a mate who they believe is struggling

How you can get involved

Men’s Health Week is an opportunity for individuals, workplaces, and communities to take meaningful action. Here are some ways to participate:

  1. Get Active: Whether it’s joining a sports team, going for daily walks, or setting fitness goals, movement is key to improving men’s health.
  2. Schedule a Health Check-Up: Encourage the men in your life to see a doctor for routine screenings and health assessments. Early detection of conditions like high blood pressure and prostate cancer can save lives.
  3. Talk About Mental Health: Open conversations about stress, anxiety, and emotional well-being can help break down stigma and encourage more men to seek support.
  4. Engage in Workplace Wellness Programs: Many businesses offer health initiatives, fitness challenges, and mental health resources that support employee well-being.
  5. Support Men’s Health Organisations: Groups like Men's Sheds, The Men's Table, Mr Perfect & Grab Life by the Balls  provide valuable resources, advocacy, and support networks for men and boys.

Building a healthier future for men and boys

Men’s Health Week serves as a crucial reminder that men’s well-being is not just an individual responsibility—it’s a societal issue that requires collective action. By raising awareness, promoting healthy habits, and encouraging open dialogue, we can help create a future where men and boys live longer, healthier, and happier lives.

No matter how you choose to participate, every effort contributes to the larger goal of improving men’s health—one conversation, one step, and one decision at a time.
