headspace to run mental health workshops in secondary schools
In recognition of Men’s Health Week 2025, headspace Schools & Communities is hosting a special online event for young men and boys across Australian secondary schools on June 11.
This free, interactive workshop will empower students to better understand mental health, foster peer support, and take positive steps toward help-seeking, all within a safe and inclusive space.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (2022), an average of 8.6 Australians die by suicide each day, and 75% of those are male. Tragically, many men and boys struggle in silence, and research shows that on average, men wait 21 years before telling anyone about their abuse or trauma. These figures underscore the need for targeted, age-appropriate education and support.
As part of its Mental Health Education Program, headspace will present the “Looking Out for Your Friends: Notice, Ask, Connect” workshop at three different times. This evidence-informed and strengths-based session is designed to boost mental health literacy, encourage meaningful conversations, and equip young people with practical tools to care for themselves and those around them.
This 75-minute workshop will be streamed directly into classrooms around the country on the following schedule:
-
VIC/NSW/ACT/TAS/QLD: 1:00pm – 2:15pm
-
SA/NT: 12:30pm – 1:45pm
-
WA: 11:00am – 12:15pm
Why this event is just for young men
This session has been created specifically for young men and boys, inclusive of trans men and boys, to provide a safe and open space to explore the mental health challenges many face, often in silence. The workshop will address topics such as stigma, gendered experiences, emotional resilience, and supporting mates in times of need.
How to register
Registrations are now open and will close on Wednesday, 4 June 2025. Given the popularity of these events, spots are limited. If sessions fill up, schools can register for a waitlist through Eventbrite.
